TIPS: IF YOU GO TO SANTA FE INDIAN MARKET
If you are planning on taking the plunge at the Santa Fe Indian Market, August 23rd and 24th, here are a few suggestions you might want to consider.  First of all, go early.  Parking is really hard to find close to the Plaza area.  Be sure to ask private parking places how much they are charging for parking and look out for those who over-charge.  Regular parking prices are around $10.  Wear confortable walking shoes/clothing and of course, sunscreen.  Hats/caps, umbrellas are also recommended.  Instead of a purse, use a small backpack or fanny pack so that you can store all of your items.  Be sure to pack water, kleenex, hand sanitizer or wipes.  Most of the public restrooms are portable potties.
It is good to read up or educate yourself on the items or products of interest to you.  Ask the following questions from artists:  Is the item completely hand-made?  What is it made of?  Get bio or information on the artist and their tribal affiliation.  Try to keep written records, photographs and receipts for your history file.  Above all, allow yourself time for an all day excursion.  There is much to see and appreciate!!

2008 Anniversary Posters
The 2008 Poster for the Bien Mur Indian Market Center's Anniversary Celebration was taken from the Pueblo of Sandia's historical archived photographs.  The photo chosen for the 33rd Anniversary is of Governor Juan Avila, Sr., pictured in the middle, circa 1900.  This pictured happened to be taken when tribal officials were in Washington, D.C., on official business.  Governor Avila served as an interpreter for the pueblo.  He was a fluent speaker of the Spanish language and helped to communicate information to other tribal officials from NM who spoke Spanish as well.  After our anniversary celebration posters can be purchased.  For full details call the Bien Mur Indian Market Center.   If you would like to order your poster call our toll free number at 1-800-365-5400 or 505-821-5405.  The cost of the poster is $25 each and $10 for shipping and handling.  If you purchase $100 or more of merchandise you can receive a free poster.
